The New Look NY Jets
After a very disappointing 2021 year, the Jets went into the draft with some questions and needs at several positions being answered. Statistically, they struggled in the pass game offensively and the defense struggled in all aspects. They started to address some major issues of concerns with a very aggressive draft approach and filling needs in free agency.
They were bold in their 2022 draft
An outstanding pick with Sauce Gardner- a true lockdown CB and a very good WR in Garrett Wilson. They mad a gutsy trade up for a draft pick and used it for Jermaine Johnson, a top 10 draft pick who slid for some reason in the draft to #26.That was arguably the best move they made in the draft. Johnson was arguably the 3rd best edge in the draft and defensive player of the year at Florida St. This allows them to play Myers more inside and use Rankins as the situational defensive tackle in which he is better suited for.
The Jets had certain areas to address: The Jets Scoring Defense was last, their run defense struggled and they had major issues on 3rd down offensively. They lacked a pass rush and were towards the end in pressure rate. The one strength on offense appeared to be the run game as they averaged over 4 yards a carry and were 10th in the league in rushes per carry. They improved in that area when they went out and got guard Laken Tomlinson and tight ends Tyler Conklin and CJ Uzomah.
The interior of the defense is sound with Q Wiliams, Mosely and possibly Franklin- Myers if you move him there after the Johnson signing. They have a solid front 4 with Rankins giving them some veteran depth.
Although they did a nice job addressing the tight end position in free agency, the offense needed weapons at WR, RB in the passing game to be successful and that was not addressed in free agency. They chose not to pull the trigger on many trade opportunities that would be very helpful to a young QB. But, JD held his ground and went the draft route. Although ,they were last in 3rd down efficiency , this didn't convince JD to sign or trade for a veteran wr. But they used their draft capital and drafted Wilson and that really gives them a solid inside WR in the passing game. Although he lacks size, he has great speed and ball skills which will help the intermediate passing game.
On Day 2
of the draft they added 2 really nice pieces. Breece Hall is a dynamic
running back that will give them another weapon. The Jets were very weak
out of the backfield in the passing game and adding Breece Hall to team
with Michael Carter
will give them a nice 1-2 punch. Jeremy Ruckert was one of the best run
blocking tight ends in college. He was great in college and watching
him maul people at Ohio State was fun to watch. Their aren't too many
better
blockers than him.
On day 3 the Jets took promising offensive
lineman Max Mitchell who will give them some depth inside. They also
took defensive end Michael Clemons, who will fight for a roster spot at
defensive end.

filled in the blanks and the depth chart is becoming better and better
by the day. They have improved their team quite well and should be very
competitive in the AFC East.
